General Description:

To provide support to enhance quality and effectiveness of laboratory activities for science labs primarily chemistry, physics, and geology with additional support for other labs as needed.

Duties and Tasks:

This position provides lab support for the Chemistry, Physics, and Geology departments and assists with other labs as needed. The Science Laboratory Technician is responsible for lab preparation/set-up and the operation and use of laboratory equipment and computers. This person may assist with lab sessions alongside instructors as necessary, participate in developing new lab activities, troubleshoot experiments, provide equipment training to other lab staff and faculty, and update MSDS records in the database of record. This person will also maintain an inventory list for the chemistry lab, assist in the implementation of lab safety protocols, monitor the budget and order supplies, oversee chemical waste pickup, and ensure that all chemicals and equipment are labeled and stored properly. There may be additional duties assigned as necessary.

 
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in any Science field. American Chemical Society (ACS) and OSHA certifications for lab safety. Experience with maintaining chemical inventory and budgets. Professional experience working in a research lab or teaching lab in a higher education setting.
